Content for a business website: what to prepare and who should write it

A website can be carefully designed and developed, yet still fail to explain what the business does. Content answers the visitor's practical questions: who can help, how the service works and why the company is credible. That is why business website content should be planned alongside design, not rushed into place the day before launch.

Begin with customer questions

List what buyers need to know before contacting the business: the problem solved, service fit, delivery process, constraints and next step. Strong homepage copy names the offer and audience clearly instead of relying on generic claims about innovation.

On a corporate website, distinct services often deserve separate pages when they serve different needs. One vague “everything we do” page rarely helps customers compare options.

Gather facts from the team

Writers need more than a logo and brand guide. Ask sales managers for recurring questions, experts for technical details and leadership for differentiators that can be supported by evidence. Collect original photographs, approved case studies, documents and testimonials where permission exists.

Do not invent certifications, customers or results. A transparent description of the working process is more useful than unverified boasts.

Write for scanning and action

Use descriptive subheadings, concise paragraphs and meaningful examples. Avoid repeating keywords to satisfy an imagined formula. Technical catalogues need attributes and tables; service pages need clear outcomes, answers to objections and sensible calls to action.

A button labelled “Request an estimate” sets better expectations than a generic “Submit”, provided that the form really does send an enquiry.

Content needs ownership after launch

Services, people, prices and conditions change. Assign an editor and establish periodic reviews for obsolete claims, old links and outdated case studies. Blog posts about advertising platforms require special attention because interfaces and rules evolve.

Practical workflow: map pages, collect facts, assign writing and visuals, verify accuracy and then publish. If the client lacks materials, treat content creation as a defined part of ongoing website development.
