Keyword mapping for service websites: avoid page duplication

How to group search queries by intent, map them to service pages and avoid competing URLs on a business website.

Keyword mapping for service websites: avoid page duplication

A keyword list is not valuable because it contains thousands of phrases. Its purpose is to show which questions an audience asks and which website pages should answer them. Poor keyword mapping causes duplicate pages, missed opportunities and internal competition.

Separate commercial and informational intent

“Corporate website development” and “how long does a website take to build?” relate to the same topic but ask for different outcomes. One visitor is choosing a supplier; the other is looking for an explanation. Map each cluster to the most useful page type.

Record the intent behind every group: purchase, comparison, explanation, troubleshooting or instructions. Avoid stuffing every related phrase into one service description.

Group by meaning, not identical wording

“Website maintenance” and “urgent website error repair” might belong to one offer, but the urgency differs. Sometimes one well-organized service page is enough; sometimes distinct processes justify separate landing pages.

Inspect the search results and existing site before creating a new URL merely because a keyword has volume.

Prevent competing pages

When multiple pages target the same commercial intent, it becomes unclear which should rank and which should convert. Clarify the purpose of each, consolidate redundant material and connect pages with useful internal links.

For example, the SEO service page should help users evaluate the service, while SEO vs Yandex Direct answers a comparison question.

Keep the map current

Demand evolves. Review search-console data, actual queries, lead feedback and new business services periodically. Do not publish a page for every phrase if the business cannot meaningfully satisfy that intent.

The finished document should map query groups, intent, target URLs, priority and status. It is a foundation for SEO strategy, not merely a word list to paste into text.
